As Jesus and his students went on their way, he came to a village called Bethany (122). There, a friend named Martha welcomed him into her home.

She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of Jesus and listened intently to his teaching.

Martha was frustrated because Mary had her left alone to do all the cooking & housework.

She said to Jesus, “Master, don’t you care that my sister isn’t doing her share of the work? Tell her to come and help me!”

Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried about many things.  But only one thing is truly needed.

“Mary has rightly chosen to focus on her relationship with me.

“Please don’t ask me to take that away from her.”
