One day Peter & John were going to the temple to pray (232). On the way, by the city gate known as Beautiful, they met a 40-year old man who had been lame all his life. Every day he was carried to this gate, where he sat & begged for money from people going into the temple.
When the lame man saw Peter & John, he bowed his head & begged them to give him something. They looked straight at him, and Peter said to him, “Look up at me.” Expecting to receive some alms, the lame man looked up.
But Peter said to him, “I have no money at all, but I’ll give you what I do have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” Peter took the lame man by his right hand & began helping him up.
Immediately, the man’s legs were strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet & started walking around! He went right into the temple with Peter & John — walking & jumping & praising God!
When people recognized him as the lame beggar who had sat at the Beautiful Gate, they were all surprised & amazed at what had happened to him.
Suddenly, many of those people surrounded Peter & John & the beggar who had been miraculously healed!
