Recognizing Local Leaders

The next day Paul & Barnabas moved further south to the city of Derbe (268). There they preached the good news & persuaded many people to begin following Jesus.

Subsequently, they went back through Lystra, Iconium, and Turkish Antioch. In each place, they strengthened the believers & encouraged them to remain true to the faith. “We must pass through many troubles to enter God’s kingdom,” they taught.

In each of the new churches they fasted & prayed for guidance from the Holy Spirit in recognizing local leaders.  Then, in each of the new churches, they appointed elders and commended them to God.

After going through the entire region of Pisidia, they returned through the region of Pamphylia, again preaching the good news about Jesus in the city of Perga.

Then they went to the port city of Attalia, from where they sailed back to Syrian Antioch, the place their missionary journey had begun.

When they arrived in Syrian Antioch, they gathered the people of the church together & told them all that God had done — especially how he had opened the way for many Gentiles to believe.

Paul & Barnabas stayed a long time with the believers in Syrian Antioch.

God, please help me to love those You choose to serve as local church leaders.
