Amazed!

When were you first amazed by Jesus?  When were you last amazed by Jesus?

That night, the boat carrying Jesus’ students was far out on the lake, being tossed about by the waves, because the wind was blowing hard against it (98).

Suddenly, Jesus approached his students, walking on the water! When they saw him walking on the water, they panicked. “It’s a ghost!” they screamed with fear.

But Jesus called to them: “Have courage! It’s me. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter called out, “Master, if it’s really you, command me to walk on the water to you.” “Come on,” said Jesus. With his eyes fixed on Jesus, Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water to his master!

But when his attention was distracted from Jesus by the strong wind & the big waves, Peter panicked & started to sink under the water. “Save me, Jesus!” he cried. At once, Jesus reached out and pulled Peter to safety.

Jesus asked Peter, “Why is your faith so small? Why did you doubt?”

In an instant, they were both in the boat, and the wind died down!

His students looked at Jesus in amazement & exclaimed, “You really are God’s son!”

LORD, please help us to love being amazed by You.

Pure Power

How have you experienced the pure power of Jesus?

That evening, after leaving Nazareth, Jesus said to his students, “Let’s go across to the other side of the lake.” So they left the crowd, got in a boat & started off (85).

But when they were out on the lake, a strong wind blew up.  Suddenly, the waves began to spill over into the boat & to fill it with water! Jesus was in the back of the boat, asleep with his head on a pillow. His students woke him & pleaded, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re about to die?!”

Jesus stood up and simply commanded the wind & the waves: “Peace. Be still.”

Immediately, the wind died down, and the waters were calmed!

Then Jesus said to his students, “Why are you so afraid? Where is your faith?”

But his students were more distressed by the power that Jesus had displayed, than they had been by the power of the storm!  To one another they said, “How is it that even the wind and the waves obey him?”

LORD, please help us to love & respect Your power.
